ENRICHMENT PROGRAM:
PROGRAMMING/CODING
Every good engineer knows how to program and code. Me however, an aspiring engineering student, has no clue how to write code. I really want to learn how to do this and be able to draft my own programs and create websites. There is a lot of software online that I use, however it sometimes lacks features that I want. It will be really awesome that I could learn how to code and do this myself. I've been told it's not that hard but it is indeed a whole new language. I'm so excited to start this new journey and end up with a
great website coded with HTML5 and CSS by myself as a result. I want the website to be about my trip to Mexico City this past summer!
STEPS & TERM GOALS
1. Investigation
The first thing I will do is a lot of research on what is coding, how does it work, its different languages and how its the base of everything on the internet. I will also go indepth on HTML and CSS which are the ones I'll be using to do my website. I'll use various websites, books and videos as my guide and also talk to my dad about it. Afterwards, I'll make a report about my investigation and attach it here.
TERM I - INVESTIGATION
TERM II & III - COURSES
Then, I'll start to actually learn code by using the website Codecademy.com. I already created my account and this online interactive plataform offers free coding courses in my desired languages of HTML and CSS. I'll do at least one course weekly. Also, my dad mentioned he will buy a course that we'll take together as well. I'll include screenshots and monthly updates of my progress and what I've learned so far.
TERM IV & V - CODE
After I've learned what is necessary to code my own website, I'll start to do so. I will do all the coding with the help of my dad if needed. Afterwards, I'll host in on a free website to it can be visible online! I will have approximately 3 months (Terms 4 and 5) to do so. I plan to do some coding weekly and have my dad review it to see if it will work properly. I'm really excited for this step of my project.
FINAL PRODUCT!
By the end of this project, I hope to have a sleek and beautiful website made entirely by me and my knowledge of code. The HTML and CSS website will revolve around my 2015 trip to Mexico City and will include maps, photos, and text about my adventures at our country's capital. I'm sure that will all my learning it will turn out great and I'll finally know how to code and add more prestige to my academic CV.
